This dress is made from silk velvet and moves in a very fluid way. Both sides of the fabric were used to create interest in the design. Although it is a commercial pattern, there are several challenging issues. Many of the seams are diagonal, so it is important not to stretch the fabric when stitching. Also the zip runs diagonally across the back, which is a challenge for any seamstress! Both sides of the fabric show on the front flounce, so it was important to finish the hem in an attractive way which did not distract from the flow of the garment.
