This lady was the wife of the captain at Ogbourne Downs Golf club, and had several dresses made during the year for the various social functions which they had to attend. The garments were in different styles to reflect the type of occasion they were being worn to. This was a full length evening gown with a drop neckline at the back, down to the waist. Also there is a small train, so as there was dancing on this occasion, there is also a ‘button and loop’ overbustle to bring the dress off the floor for the later part of the evening. The fabric was all-over sequins so it was necessary to line the garment, especially the armholes and neckline, to make sure the sequins in the seams did not scratch during wear. The lining was a stretch fabric to ensure the garment was as flexible as possible.
