Bethany had a ‘growth spurt’ after the purchase of her dream prom dress, so it no longer fitted around the bodice. The dress already had a laced bodice back, so I separated the back of the insert from the front. We felt that the modesty panel was too soft for the dress, so whilst reconstructing the back, I also lined it with stiff collar and cuff canvas and rigilene boning in a grid pattern. The extra piece of fabric from the back of the panel was cut in two and one piece stitched either side of the original front. This ensured there was no central seam down the panel. A new piece of fabric was used the line the new panel. A few minor adjustments to the side seams and beading then ensured that the dress was a perfect fit on the day.
