Chanel Style jacket

This jacket was made in a ‘Chanel’ style.  This  describes the method of making – not the features of the jacket, which can be as varied as your imagination.  This jacket was made from a Linton tweed which is by nature very pliable.  The first step was to stabilise the material by fusing the whole with a light weight fusible called Silky Touch Couture.  The jacket is then structured by stitching the lining to the top fabric.  It is a very different technique from traditional tailoring.  This makes the jacket very comfortable and it can be worn more as a cardigan whilst retaining the features of a jacket.

Double piping is used as a feature on this garment in red and black, round the whole edge and also pocket tops and down the sleeves.  The sleeve was a two piece sleeve, but the seam was moved to the top of the sleeve, so the piping could be used to pick out this seam.  Pattern matching was vital for this jacket across the whole garment and also the pockets.  The bound button holes were also black and red using the same fabric as the piping.  The buttons were hand made vintage buttons from the 40’s, and were all different in shape, although the colour and size were similar.
