I attended a week long course at West Dean College and made these shoes from scratch. There is also a matching dress now! The process involved cutting the pattern pieces in leather (you can see, I chose green) and fabric, and stitching the two together. Then the top was moulded over a last to form the ‘foot’ shape. There were several pieces involved in the shoe and insole, but the final result was a leather sole, a heel covered in the same leather as the shoe lining, and a leather insole – which you can just see peeking out of the toe. It was a fascinating course, and I intend to follow this up with another course making flat shoes with a closed in toe and heel.
